Spanning three lift-connected levels, this fully restored c1902 property, seamlessly merges period beauty with sophisticated design by B.E Architecture. We sat down with the owner, Edward Crowley, learn more about how the c1902 Victorian has been transformed into a residence that redefines luxury through remarkable, gallery-inspired spaces.

What was the brief for this project and what aspects of the renovation were most important to you?

The brief focused on creating a single-level living space with the flexibility to add two additional levels. Our priority was seamlessly integrating modern amenities while preserving the home's original charm.

Can you discuss the design considerations and materials used to bridge the transition between the period house and the modern extension?

We aimed to combine contemporary features with traditional elements. All timber has been replaced with intricate, ornate pieces, and extra effort was put into restoring the blue stone. Modern conveniences blend with the sturdy, heavy materials to maintain a cohesive look.

Private outdoor areas are unified by sleek brushed limestone floors and a continuous concrete hearth that extends through the open-plan living areas.

What specific materials did you use in the renovation?

Some of our favourite materials was this Italian limestone (Maddison), Italian silver travertine, featured in the kitchen and bathrooms as well as custom American oak joinery.

What is your Favourite room or feature of the home?

The front room, which is the original part of the house, is my favourite. It reflects the home’s heritage with its older French styling and a custom metalwork fireplace, blending historical charm with modern elegance.

How did you ensure the house retained its original character during the renovation?

We meticulously reestablished every significant part of the house to maintain its original appearance. The entire façade was carefully disassembled and reconstructed to preserve its historical integrity. The property is vertically brand new and has been fully restored.
