Macleod is located 14 km north-east of the CBD. Located in Melbourne's north MacLeod is a small suburb featuring significant tracts of reserves. The suburb is comprised of mainly one and two person households which reflects the significant elderly population in the area with about 23% of the populaation aged 60 and over. Until recently the suburb was the location of several health facilities such as Mont Park Plenty and MacLeod Repatriation hospitals some of which are now closed and being redeveloped for housing.
